To get hired, solve problems and be likeable

Make sure tthey know what is for sale

People buy things all the time, and only have two criteria – they buy things to feel good, they buy things to solve a problem.  Truly, that is it – there are no other criteria for purchases.  Think about it for a moment – you buy food, you need to eat, but you also buy food to feel good.  If something makes you feel good and solves a problem, the chances to buy are quite high from the consumer.  Hiring is the same process – after all, the employer is purchasing your labour and intellectual capital.

As a potential hire, if you can show how you are going to solve the problem, you have a good chance to get the employer’s attention.  I wrote a posting over here about balancing their problems with your solutions, and even give you a free downloadable template to figure out your selling points.  Now, the next piece is to make sure they like you.  This is the FIT factor for the new employer, and I spoke about this over at this post.  The two important things to do are to be interested, but also make sure you are interesting.  Some free tips to help you are:

  • Show that you will fit in the organization and will not cause destruction, or self-destruct

  • Highlight your technical skills and ability to learn new items and achieve learning goals

  • Demonstrate you have done research on the company – the employer will assume you will perform inside the role the way you have applied for the job – lazy applicant, lazy worker

  • Laugh a little – not too much, or they will think you unbalanced

  • Take notes

  • Ask thoughtful questions when it is your turn to ask questions – no questions from you, there is no hope for you in many cases

  • Engage the interviewer(s) by asking open ended questions and capitalizing on their interests – this is not all about you, it is only partly about you and partly about them

  • Send a thank you note to each interviewer – this is a great tip to pull from the business cards you will have asked for if you are smart enough to do so

  • Prove you are smart enough – by using these tips!

There is a difference between being a friend and being friendly – you are not expected to be their friend.  You want to be friendly, and let them know you can solve their problems and they can like you.  Remember, if they like you they are more apt to buy you.  Is there another tip that you would like to share?

Please give some examples in detail if you can. I need to find a celeb that
has done something bad with bad behavior but may be Innocent to the crime physiologically.
For example there were beaten as a child and thats
what cased them to do the crime..

  2. Check out the prices for pet health insurance online for all your
domestic animals – you will be pleasantly surprised at the small amount you need to pay for
peace of mind. Broker agents are educated to find plans that deal with
your particular requires. Wearing a piece of silver jewelry may not guarantee a perfect health, but it will most likely contribute to a better one.

I have had trouble clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.

I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.
    Any recommendations or tips? Thanks!

[...] Start with one question – “Why should this company hire me?”  This is the basis for the decision the company is going to make – what is the investment they are going to make, and what is the return.  To be able to answer this question, you need to know about the company and have done enough research to be able to discuss the issue.  There are some hints on company research I wrote about in this post here.  There is also a post I wrote about over here to research first, then look for the fit factor.   Additionally I wrote about solving problems and being likeable gets you hired.
