Many times when a client comes in looking for suggestions, they are very attached to their marketing tools (resume, cover letter, broadcast letter, online profile, etc.). I always suggest to a client not to marry your tools, it will be harder to divorce you from them down the road. I have never seen a carpenter want to marry their favourite hammer! You may have poured blood, sweat and tears into them, had them reviewed by a professional, spent hundreds of dollars and hours on changes, but without results – it does not matter. Resumes are living documents, and as such we can become attached to them and feel that if we discard them, then we are doing something wrong. Not all the time is this relationship positive, and we need to measure results.
